In pride of place at the entrance to Sun International’s The Table Bay hotel, a sun-gold statue of a seal proudly welcomes guests. The impressive seal sculpture is a fitting mascot – Cape Fur Seals are an integral part of harbour life at the V&A Waterfront. But Oscar the seal wasn’t just another playful marine pup gambolling on the tyres along the quaysides. Beneath the statue erected in his honour, an inscription reads: “Oscar the Cape Fur Seal. The original protector and guardian of The Table Bay.’’
Oscar’s story is the stuff of legends, and inextricably intertwined with the history of the hotel. To honour Oscar’s legacy, The Table Bay in collaboration with Darling Brewery crafted a signature beer which Circle named Wild Legend Weiss. Wild Legend Weiss is an aromatic Krystal Weiss that’s only available at The Table Bay.
The crisp aromatic twist of lemon and grapefruit flavours is the perfect blend made to celebrate loyalty, friendship and camaraderie. To fit in with the craft beer culture, Circle created the brand identity with a relaxed design and cool colours to allow for ease of recognition and drinking. Wild Legend Weiss made for the perfect brand opportunities, it continues to be a great vehicle that connects the hotel to its guests through gifting and other collateral.
