Tucked within the heart of the Sun City Resort, Valley of Waves has long been a magnet for thrill-seekers and sun-lovers alike. With its roaring lagoon, real-wave technology and 70-metre adrenaline drop, the Temple of Courage, the waterpark delivers high-octane fun for the entire family. But behind the entertainment lies a distinctive narrative rooted in history and elemental wonder.
Designing the Mythology of Water, Sun and Stone
When tasked with evolving the Valley of Waves brand identity, Circle looked to the architectural language that shaped the park itself, a deliberate homage to the ruins of an ancient civilisation. The design system needed to pay respect to this foundation while creating an energetic, cohesive identity that could extend across every touchpoint.
At the core of the identity lies the triangle, a symbol historically used by ancient cultures to represent the element of water, often visualised through angular zigzags and geometric abstraction. From this, Circle created a custom typeface formed entirely from triangular geometry, distressed to evoke weathered stone tablets lost to time.
Crafting a Visual Language of Ancient Escapism
The visual identity was built around a palette and set of motifs that channel sun, sand and surf. Warm, golden hues reflect the glow of African sunlight, while aqua blues and seafoam greens evoke the coolness of cascading waves. Graphic elements inspired by ancient iconography, stylised suns, flowing waves and carved patterns, tie the visual language together into a distinct and ownable system.
This language extends well beyond the logo. Whether applied to umbrellas, towels, signage or gifting, the identity reinforces the immersive experience of Valley of Waves as a place where ancient magic meets modern adventure.
Outcome: A Branded Escape That Transcends Time
With its new identity, Valley of Waves now offers more than fun in the sun, it offers a fully branded journey into a world of wonder, mystery and elemental energy. The system designed by Circle creates an emotional connection that resonates across generations, transforming the waterpark into a mythical destination that leaves a lasting impression long after the sun has set.
